Lotito Admits Difficulties of Berardi Deal: ‘I’d Like to Sign Him, But…’

Claudio Lotito reportedly explained why Lazio are unlikely to make a deal for Domenico Berardi, despite their interest in the Sassuolo talisman.

The 28-year-old Italian winger quickly emerged as one of the Biancocelesti’s top targets to bolster Maurizio Sarri’s attack this summer.

After talks with his entourage, Lazio agreed to the terms of a deal with Berardi, but failed to find an agreement with Sassuolo, who want at least €30 million for their talismanic winger.

Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24) claims that Lotito admitted the difficulties of a deal for Berardi to well-known Lazio fan Sister Paola at Vincenzo D’Amico’s funeral.

I’d like to sign him, but Sassuolo are shooting over €30 million for someone who is almost 30 years old and demands a high wage. I have to think first of all not to dismantle and confirm the team that won second place.

I have renewed Pedro, then there will be Luis Alberto, and slowly the right reinforcements to expand the squad for the Champions League.

Lazio have now seemingly moved away from Berardi and are working on a deal for Bologna’s Riccardo Orsolini, who would be significantly cheaper than his Sassuolo counterpart.

The Roman club are also working on picking up a number of other targets, including a new backup striker and a new left back.
