Lazio Closing in on Deal for Free Agent D’Ambrosio

Lazio are reportedly close to agreeing a deal with Danilo D’Ambrosio, who is a free agent after leaving Inter.

The Biancocelesti are working to pick up a number of reinforcements this summer following their qualification to the Champions League.

Maurizio Sarri made it clear that the Lazio squad wasn’t strong enough to compete on multiple fronts last season, so the club are keen to give him the resources to fight in both Serie A and Europe.

As detailed by Gianluca Di Marzio, Lazio are keen to add D’Ambrosio to the squad this summer and are closing in on an agreement with the free agent.

The 34-year-old Italian centre back ended a nine-year spell with the Nerazzurri last week. During his time at the club, he made 284 appearances across all competitions, helping them win a Scudetto and two Coppa Italia titles.

He would be a useful alternative to Alessio Romagnoli, Nicolo Casale and Patric in the backline, giving Sarri more flexibility.

  1. I hope it’s no longer then a year contract with option to add another. Otherwise this was thrown money at a 34 year old who barely played last season.

It’s not that I don’t rate him but he just wasn’t convincing me recently. Surely he is a back up but still. Hope I’ll be proven wrong similar to Hisay but he at least was wanted and formerly coached by Sarri.

  2. Unfortunately, we’re AGAIN going in the wrong direction… D’Ambrosio is a player for Verona, not Lazio ffs…
