Lazio president Claudio Lotito has decided to punish Luis Alberto after his recent outburst regarding his new contract.
Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) details how the player agreed to the terms of a new long-term contract with the club – around €4 million net per season plus add-ons until 2027 – but was unhappy with the exclusion of a €140,000 Champions League bonus that was present in his current deal.
Luis Alberto first shared his frustration on social media before missing a few training sessions. He did not join the squad for their trip to England to face Aston Villa in a friendly, but has been reinstated to the squad in Spain ahead of their friendly against Girona.
The 30-year-old has apologised to Lazio, Maurizio Sarri and his teammates, but regardless he’ll be fined €40,000 by the club. His new contract talks have been frozen until the end of the summer, and he could also lose his vice-captaincy role, despite the coach’s decision.
