Analyzing New Lazio Signing Daichi Kamada

Age 27, right-footed Japan international Daichi Kamada is a well-rounded addition to Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio that can play in an array of positions in the middle of the pitch. When one thinks about the midfielder, three words come to mind right away: versatility, cleverness, and vision – states The Underrated Scout’s Chiara.

Daichi Kamada: Position & Strengths

Born as an attacking midfielder, he can play as a mezzala in a three-man midfield as well, which is realistically where he will play under Sarri. In this position, he can pair his fantastic ability to find through balls and set up his teammates with his good mid-to-long-range shooting.

But he is not just a creative, out-of-the-box player. He can be very aggressive on the opposition backline cutting in behind the defenders and putting pressure on them. Starting from midfield he is also really good at making late runs into the box, which are very hard to track.

Over the last four seasons at Eintracht Frankfurt, he has always been a contributor to goals – last season alone, he netted 16 goals and provided 7 assists across 47 matches in all competitions, also showing his ability to stay match-fit and play consistently at the highest level.

Daichi Kamada: Playing Style

Although Daichi does not have Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s physicality, nor can he be a target up top like him, he is not small either. He stands 184cm tall and has good anticipation on aerial duels, proving himself in both the attacking and defensive phases in recent times.

His ability to play short quick tempo passes matches well with Sarri’s philosophy and he can find good partnerships with the wingers (Felipe Anderson, Mattia Zaccagni, Gustav Isaksen, Pedro) going forward.

A bit of doubt arises, instead, on his coexistence with Luis Alberto, since they both like to guide the offense of their team and to link up play in similar areas of the pitch. This will be Something Sarri will have to work on.

However, he is a well-rounded, solid player with a lot of international experience for both club and country who has the ability to thrive in Rome.
