Union Berlin are in talks with Leonardo Bonucci but are now facing competition from Lazio for the Juventus veteran.

The 36-year-old Italian defender is clearly on the way out of Turin after being cut from Massimiliano Allegri’s squad. He did not join the team for their trip to the United States, making his position clear.

Bonucci’s entourage have been looking around for suitors and he’s been linked to various clubs in recent weeks including Fiorentina. Now, another Italian side has seriously entered the fray.

As reported by Alfredo Pedulla, Union Berlin contacted Bonucci yesterday to discuss a possible move and in the evening, Lazio emerged to start sounding out a deal.

The Biancocelesti believe that the 36-year-old would be an experienced backup option, which could be very useful for their upcoming Champions League campaign.

Bonucci made 26 appearances across all competitions last season for Juventus, seeing 1517 minutes of action. In that time, he scored two goals but suffered from a number of minor muscle issues.
