Empoli have officially announced the arrival of Matteo Cancellieri, who has left Lazio on a loan deal with a buy option attached.
The 21-year-old Italian forward arrived in the Italian capital last summer from Hellas Verona but struggled to break into Maurizio Sarri’s squad, only receiving a handful of opportunities across the campaign.
Cancellieri saw 602 minutes of action across 30 total appearances, not enough for him to continue his development and truly show his best for Lazio, making a departure this summer sensible.
As announced by Empoli, Cancellieri has joined from Lazio on a loan deal with a €12 million buy option attached. The Roman club hold a €20 million buy-back option, giving them some control should he reach his potential in Tuscany.
Empoli secured a 14th place finish in Serie A last season and have grown a strong reputation for developing talented youngsters, with recent examples being Fabiano Parisi and Tommaso Baldanzi.
