Kamada on Lazio Move, Serie A Lessons & Japanese Market

Daichi Kamada introduced himself to the Lazio fans, discussing his move to Rome and the lessons he can learn in Italy.

The 27-year-old Japanese midfielder joined the Biancocelesti on a free transfer earlier this month, penning a four-year contract understood to be worth around €3 million net per season.

Kamada is a much-anticipated addition to the Lazio squad and many fans hope he’ll be able to sufficiently replace Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who was sold to Al-Hilal for €42 million earlier this summer.

Speaking to Lazio Style Channel (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Kamada first introduced himself to the fans in the Italian capital.

Good morning Lazio fans, I am Daichi Kamada. As I have said many times, I strongly wanted to play for a team fighting in the Champions League. The president and the coach enthusiastically wanted me to play for Lazio.

I myself believe that I can grow here and become a better player. That’s why I decided to come here.

I think I can play better as a number 8, as an inside midfielder or a mezzala, as you say. I have played many games in Germany, in the Bundesliga. Now my career starts in Italy.

He touched on the tactical aspect of football in Italy and why he can grow at Lazio.

As everyone knows Italian football is very tactically developed. In fact in training there are so many lessons to learn. In this way I think I can grow tactically, learning so many things. Since I knew I was going to play for Lazio, I have watched so many matches.

Unlike Eintracht Frankfurt, which often invests in so many young players and then puts them on the market, Lazio have grown over time by retaining the best players. I believe I can play with high-level teammates.

Finally, Kamada discussed the market in Japan for Serie A and the impact he can have.

Serie A is very popular in Japan. Some famous Japanese players have played here in Italy in the past.

In recent years there have been no Japanese players, now there will only be me. By playing well, I would like to show the beauty of Serie A and Lazio to Japanese fans.

During his four years with Eintracht Frankfurt, Kamada made 179 appearances across all competitions, scoring 40 goals and providing 33 assists.
