Lotito: ‘I’ve Built a Ferrari at Lazio & the Market Isn’t Over Yet’

Lazio president Claudio Lotito was proud of his work in the summer transfer window and hinted at a further arrival.

The Biancocelesti sold star midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Al-Hilal last month for around €42 million and have worked hard to strengthen Maurizio Sarri’s squad, although they did take time to start accelerating in the market.

Lazio have already signed six players this summer – Valentin Castellanos, Daichi Kamada, Nicolo Rovella, Luca Pellegrini, Gustav Isaksen and Luigi Sepe – and two more reinforcements will arrive in the shape of Matteo Guendouzi and Christos Mandas.

Speaking to Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24), Lotito discussed Lazio’s summer transfer window and what’s next.

I have built a Ferrari, now the pitch must speak. I’ve already spent €100 million on reinforcements between signings, commissions and wages, without the second instalment of Milinkovic-Savic which will come in a year’s time. And the market is not over yet…

Recent reports suggest that Lotito is now working to pick up Juventus veteran Leonardo Bonucci, having pushed to convince Sarri of the deal. With less than 48 hours left in the summer transfer window, updates are expected imminently.

Lazio have also started working on tying down their stars to new contracts, with Luis Alberto recently putting pen to paper on a new five-year deal.

  1. There are 2 MASSIVELY worrying things about this statement:

    1. How can anyone look at this squad – who have had back-to-back losses against two awful teams in Lecce and Genoa (not to mention the friendly against Aston Villa which I was at where they made us look like a pub team) – and say “I’ve built a Ferrari?” It’s at best a 2014 Fiat Punto with tinted windows and alloys added (cheap pre owned alloys at that)!!

    2. You can’t give it big talk about spending €100m when including wages and agents fees!! We’ve signed a bang average striker from the MLS in Taty for €15m and Isaksen from Midtjylland in Denmark for €13m, both poor standard leagues. Taken two rejects from probably the worst Juventus team ever on cheap loans (one of which couldn’t get in our team last season so unsure why he’s back) and kamada which lets be honest, if it wasn’t for the fact he was a free agent and we received help from our kit partner Mizuno who provided the Japanese connection, wouldn’t have been signed… If I was Lotito I’d keep quiet about spending €100m as he’s been robbed, given he’s spent no more than €40m on transfer fees which means €60m on wages and agents fees. He’s got €40m back from the sale of SMS who had more impact alone than all the above combined!

We over achieved last season and I think we’ll be found out this time. This team would struggle to win the Coppa Italia let alone the Champions League! Where’s the stadium he promised? Where is the youth development? Where is the Sarriball which you hired him to bring? Nowhere, and poor old Maurizio is expected to make wine with from water.

SELL UP AND GET BACK TO YOUR POLITICS LOTITO, YOU TIN POT DICTATOR!!
