Zaccagni Agent on Lazio Renewal: ‘Evidently Lotito Has Other Priorities’

Mario Giuffredi, the agent of Mattia Zaccagni, expressed his frustration with the slow progress of negotiating a new contract with Lazio.

The 28-year-old Italian winger has shined for the Biancocelesti since his arrival from Hellas Verona in the summer of 2021 and last season proved his ability to lead Maurizio Sarri’s frontline.

In the 2022-23 campaign, Zaccagni scored 10 goals and provided 10 assists in 45 total appearances. He has two years left on his contract with Lazio and is keen to sign a new long-term deal, reflective of his importance to the club.

Speaking to TMW, Zaccagni’s agent Giuffredi discussed the progress of a new contract with Lazio and how long talks have been ongoing.

I spoke with Lotito for eight months: first there was the January market, then Easter, then the goals to be achieved in the league and then Champions League qualification, then politics, then the summer market.

I put all my good will into closing the deal as soon as possible as it was Mattia’s wish to be linked to Lazio for a long time. From now on it will no longer be my problem. Evidently Lotito has other priorities. I don’t pray to anyone except in church.

The renewal must be a mutual pleasure. There’s an important year ahead for Mattia with the team’s league ambitions, the Champions League and the national team.

We are sure to have a great year. And continuing like this at the end of the season, contractually, he will be in the same situation as Milinkovic Savic and certainly not because of us.

He was then asked if he could be negotiating with Lazio until the end of the new season.

Well, by then it will be too late. We certainly don’t wait for the comfort of others. And maybe in a few months it will be us who change our minds…

Lazio have been slow with contract renewals in recent months, only just managing to get a new deal across the line for Luis Alberto following tensions. Felipe Anderson is also waiting for a new contract.

  1. This guy is jumping a bit overboard . Idk how Lotito takes these statements and how much Zaccagni had. Hand in this. Would be good to clarify and let’s also not forget that his contract runs till 2025. But I do agree that we need to give him a raise and tie him down.
