Story Behind Tension Between Zaccagni Agent & Lazio

Tensions have started to brew between Mario Giuffredi, the agent of Mattia Zaccagni, and Lazio president Claudio Lotito.

Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) details how the Italian agent visited the Biancocelesti during their pre-season training retreat in Auronzo di Cadore on 23rd July, where he watched the friendly against Triestina.

After the match, Giuffredi and Lotito shared a meal together at the hotel, where they took stock of Zaccagni’s demands for a new contract.

Lazio had hoped to pay around €3 million net per season plus add-ons in wages, whilst Zaccagni was hoping for a slightly higher salary of €3.5 million net.

A small gap. Confidence was high that a deal could be agreed, but Giuffredi is now frustrated because no progress has been made since that night.

Zaccagni had hoped for a response by early September, once Luis Alberto’s new deal had been finalised, but for now there is still radio silence from Lotito.

Giuffredi will visit the Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday to watch Lazio take on Atletico Madrid in the Champions League and it’s up to Lotito whether the pair meet to discuss the situation or not.
