Lazio vs Atletico: Recent History

It’s fair to say that Lazio are not in a run of good form in the early stages of the new season. The team started the term with losses to Lecce and Genoa but showed positive signs in a 2-1 win over Napoli, but no momentum was built and Maurizio Sarri’s side fell away to Juventus 3-1, leaving them 15th in the Serie A table.

Atletico have looked more impressive this campaign, with a 3-1 win over Granada and a 7-0 thrashing of Rayo Vallecano, but their 0-0 draw with Real Betis and 3-0 loss away to Valencia both show that Diego Simeone’s side are not firing on all cylinders just yet.

The last time these two teams met was back in the 2011-12 season in the Second Round of the Europa League. Atletico beat Lazio 3-1 away and 1-0 at home, results Sarri will be desperate to avoid repeating.

Lazio vs Atletico: Team News

Lazio have a fully fit squad heading into the match, giving Sarri flexibility and options across the pitch.

Atletico are without Thomas Lemar and Caglar Soyuncu, with the former requiring surgery and the latter dealing with an adductor issue. Rodrigo De Paul is also unavailable through injury.

Expected Starting Lineups

Lazio (4-3-3): Provedel; Marusic, Casale, Romagnoli, Pellegrini; Guendouzi, Cataldi, Luis Alberto; F. Anderson, Immobile, Zaccagni.

Atletico (3-5-2): Oblak; Savic, Witsel, Hermoso; Molina, Llorente, Barrios, Saul, Riquelme; Griezmann, Morata.
