Pedro: ‘I’m Happy to Face a Spanish Team Like Atletico’

Pedro is excited to play Atletico Madrid but admitted he’d ‘have preferred to face Barcelona’ ahead of Lazio’s Champions League opener.

The Biancocelesti have been drawn into Group F alongside Atletico, Feyenoord and Celtic, making their opening clash one of the most difficult in their group stage. Victory in Rome on Tuesday would give the team a key boost in their quest to reach the knock-out stages.

Pedro is no stranger to the Champions League, having lifted the trophy with Barcelona three times earlier in his career. He’s scored 16 goals and provided 11 assists in 76 total appearances in the competition.

Speaking to Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Pedro first discussed Lazio’s upcoming match with Atletico.

I’m happy to challenge a Spanish team like Atletico, however I would have preferred to face Barcelona, it would have been very nice.

Barcelona have been reinforced. I have many friends there and, in general, in La Liga. On Tuesday I will meet some of them again. I wish Barca a lot of luck and also Xavi, who is a friend of mine.

He gave his thoughts on Joao Felix’s last-minute move to the Blaugrana. The Portuguese winger was clearly out of Diego Simeone’s plans in the Spanish capital.

Sometimes it’s complicated to adapt to another idea of football, but at Barcelona he will succeed. It’s a pity we didn’t see the real him at Atletico.

Finally, Pedro discussed Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Lionel Messi’s moves to MLS side Inter Miami.

They are very happy and win practically every game. They have made a very good choice.
