Italy Coach Spalletti to Meet With Sarri at Formello

After meeting various coaches around Italy, Azzurri boss Luciano Spalletti will head to Formello for a chat with Lazio’s Maurizio Sarri.

The new Italy coach, who took over following Roberto Mancini’s shock resignation last month, has already travelled to Turin and Milan, where he met Ivan Juric, Massimiliano Allegri and Stefano Pioli, keeping an eye on various players who could be a part of his fresh Azzurri project.

Spalletti’s first two matches in charge of the Azzurri came earlier this month, when the team drew to North Macedonia 1-1 and beat Ukraine 2-1. Italy will face Malta on October 14 and England on October 17 in their next round of Euro 2024 qualifiers.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Spalletti is ready to meet with Sarri and follow a Lazio training session as the Italy coach thinks ahead to the next international break.

He will explain to Sarri how 26-28 players will be called up for the October matches, with a further eight to 10 who’ll be part of the squad but not in the training camp, allowing them to continue working with their clubs but able to join up with the national team if needed.
