Lazio president Claudio Lotito did not seem too concerned when discussing the team’s slow start to the season, calling it ‘early days’.
The Biancocelesti have suffered their worst Serie A start in over two decades, managing to pick up just four points from their opening five games. The only highlights have been a 2-1 win over Napoli and a 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid in the Champions League opener.
Maurizio Sarri is keen to turn things around as soon as possible, wanting to ensure that Lazio are in the right spots as the race for a top four finish starts to take shape.
Speaking to Corriere di Roma (via TMW), Lotito first reacted to Lazio’s poor start to the season.
There is no room for relative opinions, results speak. Unfortunately. We have to trust in the team’s potential.
The boys, all together, must rediscover the mechanisms that allowed us to arrive second. Because we have goals, we need a turnaround.
The Biancocelesti president then reflected on what’s gone wrong at the start of this campaign and how things can be improved.
It’s been five or six games, it’s early days. We have to improve the condition of the team. A lot of new players have been brought in and they still have to understand the system. Some of them don’t speak the language.
I’m confident because we had a bad start last year too, so we mustn’t overdramatize. The important thing is that the team is aware of their own means. Awareness is fundamental for the achievement of goals.
Patience is starting to run out with supporters, many of whom loudly jeered the players after the full time whistle in the 1-1 draw with Monza.
