Luis Alberto: ‘Lazio Played Well Against Milan, Shame About Result’

Luis Alberto tried to find the positives after Lazio’s painful 2-0 loss to Milan, admitting the team ‘should always be’ like this.

The Biancocelesti created some chances at San Siro but ultimately returned to the Italian capital empty handed after goals from Christian Pulisic and Noah Okafor. It was yet another poor result from Maurizio Sarri’s squad, leaving them far down in the bottom half of the table after seven games.

Lazio need to start turning things around fast if they want any hope of securing qualification to European competition, let alone the Champions League. They’ll face Celtic in Europe’s premier club competition next week, a must-win match in their quest for the knockout stages.

Speaking to DAZN (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Luis Alberto first reacted to Lazio’s loss to Milan.

I think the team played a good match, it’s a shame about the result. I think we deserved much more. We know that they have that player on the left who can break the deadlock at any time. We suffered especially with the first goal, because we didn’t start very well.

We rightly need to be a little more aggressive in the box. In the first half we especially missed scoring goals straight away because we were doing well.

This is the Lazio that should always be, if we lose like this. We didn’t like the start of the season, especially the first match.

He spoke about his new contract with the Biancocelesti.

I have to do my best for the team. I feel good, I feel at the centre of the project. The coach has faith in me, I have to continue like this and help all my teammates and take the points we need to put Lazio where they deserve to be.

He was asked if he feels like a leader in this squad.

Yes, however, I’ve always said that. I’ve been here for eight years and I’m playing more. I have to help all my teammates and do my best as possible. If there is this attitude, as with Turin, the result will come.

The Spaniard gave his thoughts on new signing Nicolo Rovella.

I knew he was strong, I like him. He is someone who always wants the ball even if he makes mistakes, he has personality. This means he is a good player.

Finally, Luis Alberto spoke about Lazio’s Champions League campaign this season.

Playing straight away gives you the opportunity to win and gain confidence. It’s the right time to continue on this path and be more aggressive, look at what we’re doing wrong.

It’s great to play the Champions League, just entering the Champions League gives you motivation on the pitch, hearing the music.
