Lazio president Claudio Lotito is reportedly considering putting the logo for Rome’s Expo 2030 bid on the team’s shirts.
The Biancocelesti’s intercity rivals Roma sparked political fallout earlier this week after they announced their two-year partnership deal with Riyadh Season, whose logo will now be displayed on their shirts.
Riyadh is one of Roma’s rivals, alongside Busan, to host the Expo 2030 world’s fair. The Giallorossi’s deal caused concern from local politicians and the mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri.
Writing in an official statement, Lotito commented on the Rome Expo 2030 bid.
Lazio have always manifested their action aimed at protecting the value aspect of sport in its entirety and the interests of the city of Rome, being the first team in the capital.
To this end, they will implement every possible initiative to support the candidature of the city of Rome to host an international event as important as Expo 2030, in order to allow the capital of Italy, its inhabitants and the entire country to take advantage of the economic and social benefits that will result in the present and the future.
Lotito is now thinking about using the Rome Expo 2030 logo as the club’s main shirt sponsor. No negotiations have been carried out yet, but rumours suggest that the president could sanction the deal for free, aware of the obvious PR boost.
This could also come in handy as Lazio work to build a new stadium, giving him some political favour.
