Mario Gila Asks to Leave Lazio in January Transfer Window

Mario Gila has reportedly asked for a transfer away from Lazio in the upcoming January transfer window.

The 23-year-old Spanish defender joined the Biancocelesti from Real Madrid last year in a deal worth around €6m, adding a raw talent to Maurizio Sarri’s squad. He struggled for playing time in his debut season, seeing just 764 minutes of action across 12 total appearances.

Alongside Toma Basic, Mario Gila hasn’t seen a single minute of action for Lazio this season, remaining on the bench for all their matches so far.

He had some approaches in the summer but the club refused to let him leave, wanting to ensure Sarri had enough options in defence.

As reported by La Lazio Siamo Noi, Mario Gila is tired of waiting for a chance and now wants to leave Lazio in January, wanting to play more regular football.

The 23-year-old has attracted attention from Hellas Verona, Espanyol and Rayo Vallecano. His departure would also free up a spot in the squad for young Empoli talent Gabriele Guarino, who has impressed Sarri.

  1. I can see his point and can’t really argue with him. It’s a bit sad but sometimes in football you need to move on.

If there is no turning back, I wish him luck.
