Three Reasons Why Immobile Didn’t Leave Lazio This Summer

Ciro Immobile’s future at Lazio was shrouded in doubt in the summer but there are a few reasons why the 33-year-old chose to stay in the Italian capital.

The striker was heavily targeted by clubs in Saudi Arabia and turned down a two-year contract offer worth around €30m total, not wanting to close his chapter with the Biancocelesti just yet.

Immobile has not been his best this season for Lazio, scoring just three goals across 12 games, having dealt with various physical issues over the last year. Despite this, he’s still a core part of Maurizio Sarri’s squad.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), there are three main reasons why Immobile chose to stay with Lazio in the summer, despite the lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia.

The first is his love of the Biancocelesti. The 33-year-old feels connected to the club, the fans and the city, and feels that he’s an important leader in the dressing room.

The second reason is the prosect of next summer’s European Championship, so he was keen to continue playing at the highest level.

The final reason is the Champions League, a competition in which Immobile has rarely appeared in and means a lot to Lazio.
