Lazio Can’t Find Breakthrough in Tense Derby With Roma

Amidst the usual tensions of the Derby della Capitale, Lazio were unable to find the edge over rivals Roma, forcing the two teams to share a point apiece.

The Biancocelesti have been in strange form following the October international break, picking up wins over Fiorentina 1-0 and Feyenoord 1-0, but falling in losses to Bologna 1-0 and the Eredivisie outfit 3-1.

Roma’s season also started poorly under Jose Mourinho, but their recovery came a little earlier, allowing them to climb a point closer to the top four spots after 11 matches.

In a packed Stadio Olimpico, the Derby della Capitale kicked off and Roma took an early spell of control, having a few wayward chances in the opening stages.

Luis Alberto came the closest in the first half hour, with his curling shot from outside the penalty area striking the Roma post in the 25th minute.

Maurizio Sarri’s side had another decent chance a few minutes later through an Alessio Romagnoli header, but a good stop from Rui Patricio kept things level.

The heavy atmosphere continued in the second half but neither side produced many convincing chances, both failing to break the deadlock as the game progressed.

After a long 93 minutes in the Italian capital, referee Davide Massa blew the final whistle to the first Derby della Capitale of the season, ending a forgettable and fairly tame clash between the two bitter rivals.
