Lazio Keen on Insigne but Must Overcome Hurdles

Lazio are interested in signing Toronto FC winger Lorenzo Insigne in January but must resolve some issues before pushing through a deal.

The 32-year-old Italian forward has grown increasingly unhappy with the MLS side since his arrival on a free transfer in July of last year. After a strong start, things have started to slow down and he became the figure of much ire amongst supporters.

Insigne, who was in the headlines for showing the middle finger to some Toronto fans recently, only scored four goals and provided four assists across 20 MLS matches last term, failing to justify his lofty salary and star status.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Lazio are keen to sign Insigne in January and the winger would be happy to work with Maurizio Sarri and Ciro Immobile, but first some hurdles need to be overcame.

The first is his salary; the forward currently earns around €7.5m net per season, figures the Biancocelesti obviously cannot match. The second issue is that he may have to pay a hefty fee to tax authorities, which could further complicate matters.

Insigne recently joined the You First agency, who also represent Lazio star Luis Alberto, which could help facilitate talks.
