Lotito Dismissive When Asked of Lazio Interest in Insigne

Lazio president Claudio Lotito claimed there’s ‘nothing true’ when asked about reports of the club’s interest in Toronto FC winger Lorenzo Insigne.

The 32-year-old Italian is seemingly looking for a way out of the Canadian club just 18 months after his arrival, unhappy with how things have progressed in that time. He started his time in the MLS well, scoring six goals in his first 11 games, but this term was far more disappointing.

Insigne has been heavily linked with a move to Lazio over the last few months, reportedly offering himself to the club. He worked well with Maurizio Sarri at Napoli and would seemingly be a good fit for the squad in the Italian capital.

Speaking to Tag24 (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Lotito was asked if Lazio would be signing Insigne from Toronto FC.

There’s nothing true, that I know of… if I have to be honest, I don’t know, what can I tell you. Look, they haven’t said anything to me about this, to me it seems half nonsense, if not more than half.

Do one thing, talk to the sporting director, I don’t know if they’ve thought of anything in their forecasts, at the moment I’m not aware of these facts.

Sarri wanting Insigne? I repeat, I don’t know, it seems stupid to me…

Insigne earns a hefty salary with Toronto, around €7.5 million net per season, so he’d have to agree to drop his wages in order to join the Biancocelesti.
