Maurizio Sarri was exasperated after another disappointing Lazio performance, believing his team ‘did too little’ in the 2-1 loss to Salernitana.
The Biancocelesti had hoped to continue their climb up the Serie A table following the November international break, but fell completely flat at the Stadio Arechi, suffering defeat despite taking a 1-0 lead in the first half through a Ciro Immobile penalty.
A scrappy goal from Grigoris Kastanos and a thunderous long shot from Antonio Candreva in the second half secured the victory for the home side, leaving Lazio with nothing to show for their on-pitch control in Salerno.
Speaking in a press conference (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) after the match, Sarri first reacted to Lazio’s defeat to Salernitana.
This is happening to us too often. We found a team that gave us ample space so there were the conditions to be dangerous but instead we did too little.
We can rely on 2000 reasons, such as the failure to send off Gyomber, the referee had no character and cannot referee at this level.
But 90 minutes cannot be contained in this, in analysing the match we did little, too many players do not perform as well as last year.
Either the responsibility is mine or we have lost sight of who we are. Last year these games were won peacefully.
He spoke about how the team cannot achieve their objectives playing at this level.
Certain performances cannot be justified even with the schedule. In my opinion there are too many players who are not performing.
If Lazio play like this, it is useless to talk about a high finish, we will have a quiet mid-table finish. At the moment the performances are not up to par for Lazio to be able to achieve the objectives.
The Lazio coach was asked if his position could be under threat considering president Claudio Lotito’s frustrations.
I don’t know what he wants to do. If I were the president, I would intervene heavily, I’m not a supporter of training camps but I would do something to break the inertia. The team have lost personality, initiative.
After the goal in the second half, we came back for 50 minutes. This doesn’t fall within our characteristics. There is something that doesn’t work, if I were sure that it was only my fault I would leave.
However, I don’t understand where my difference could be compared to last year, this year, in fact, I am much more pressing. If in the next few days, I decide that it is my fault, I will be the first to make the decision to leave by talking to the president.

This is a team that, if you talk about the level of application, always gives you the feeling of having it. They don’t do training sessions in which they give you the feeling of being out of your mind.
