Matias Vecino is still frozen out of the Lazio squad as the drama between him and Maurizio Sarri hasn’t been resolved yet.
The 32-year-old Uruguayan midfielder was not included in the squad for the 1-0 Coppa Italia win over Genoa on Tuesday for disciplinary reasons. He released a statement the same day, challenging accusations that he’d been disrespectful during training.
Vecino has been a prominent part of the Lazio squad since his arrival on a free transfer last year. He was the team’s man of the match in their 2-1 win over Celtic in the Champions League on October 4, scoring their first-half equaliser.
As reported by Il Messaggero and Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Vecino has left unhappy after playing just seven minutes in the 1-0 win over Cagliari and he had a heated confrontation with Sarri in the changing rooms in Formello the following day.
He is still not training with the squad and Lazio are now waiting for an apology from the midfielder before he’s brought back into the fold.
