Lazio posted a touching tribute to former player and coach Sinisa Mihajlovic, who sadly passed away a year ago today.

The former defender tragically passed away on 16th December 2022 after a long battle with leukaemia, having been initially diagnosed back in 2019. His death sent shockwaves across the world of Italian football and saw an outpouring of support from players, fans and clubs.

Mihajlovic spent six years of his playing career with Lazio from 1998 to 2004, scoring 33 goals and providing 32 assists in 193 appearances across all competitions. He helped the club win a Scudetto, two Coppa Italia, two Supercoppa Italiana, the UEFA Super Cup and the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.

Lazio posted a tribute to Mihajlovic on their Twitter page, sharing photos of the former defender alongside the caption: “One of us. Sinisa forever.”

Mihajlovic initially struggled to settle in his coaching career but found consistency with Bologna, who stuck with him despite his illness. He was dismissed by the club in early September 2022 due to his poor health.
