Lazio Secure Key Win With Strong Showing Against Frosinone

Lazio ended 2023 with a smile after flying to an impressive 3-1 win over Frosinone, proving their abilities without star duo Ciro Immobile and Luis Alberto.

Both players will be out of action for the next three to four weeks, leaving Maurizio Sarri without his two trusted lieutenants, and many fans were left concerned ahead of their clash with an ambitious Frosinone.

Frosinone have proved to be a testing opponent in their first season back in the topflight, but their recent poor form gave the team some confidence ahead of the clash at the Stadio Olimpico.

The first half in Rome was a fairly balanced and equal affair, with both teams having a few good chances through Valentin Castellanos, Mattia Zaccagni and Ilario Monterisi.

The match burst into life in the second half. Frosinone were awarded a penalty in the 56th minute after a Mateo Guendouzi hand ball, and it was easily dispatched by young talent Matias Soule, who sent Ivan Provedel the wrong way.

Lazio refused to accept defeat, however, and responded in the 70th minute with a leaping header from Castellanos, who was overjoyed to find the back of the net again.

Only two minutes later, the home side took a 2-1 lead after a quick burst forward allowed Gustav Isaksen to fire the ball past Stefano Turati, lighting up the Stadio Olimpico.

The Biancocelesti confirmed their victory in the 84th minute after Patric poked the ball into the back of the net following an accurate corner.

It was an important victory for Sarri’s Lazio, who are now starting to close the gap to the coveted top four spots, and their response to Frosinone was a sign of a growing mentality.
