Kamada Meets With Lazio as Future Becomes Clear

Daichi Kamada met with Lazio director Angelo Mariano Fabiani to clarify his plans for the future after a difficult start in Rome.

The 27-year-old midfielder struggled for regular playing time under Maurizio Sarri in the first half of the season and was not included in the Japan squad for the coming Asian Cup, leaving him dejected and frustrated in the Italian capital.

Kamada joined Lazio on a free transfer last summer, penning a one-year contract with an option for a further three years. With only six months left on his deal, there have been fears that he could leave in the coming weeks.

As reported by Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Kamada met with Fabiani to discuss his position and plans with Lazio, making clear his desire to break back into the Japan squad ahead of the next World Cup.

Due to the Italian government’s rules regarding the Growth Decree law, it seems likely that the 27-year-old will leave in the summer. The tax relief has now expired and Kamada’s three-year option wouldn’t be covered by this, making the deal far more costly for the Biancocelesti.
