Lazio vs Roma: Recent History
Lazio played a controlled outing in their first Coppa Italia match of the season, dispatching Genoa 1-0 after a fifth minute goal from midfielder Mateo Guendouzi, taking them through to the next round.
In Serie A, Maurizio Sarri’s side have continued their recovery after the early season struggles and seventh in the league table, three points behind fourth place Fiorentina, putting them in the thick of the fight for a Champions League spot.
Roma’s Coppa Italia Round of 16 match was a little more tense. Jose Mourinho’s side fell 1-0 down to Cremonese after a Frank Tsadjout opener before finding two late goals from Romelu Lukaku and Paulo Dybala in the last 15 minutes of the clash.
The Giallorossi have struggled to impress in the league in recent weeks, winning just once in their last five outings. On the weekend, the club were held to a 1-1 draw by Atalanta, allowing Lazio to leapfrog in the league table.
The first Derby della Capitale of the season took place back in November and ended goalless, with both sides struggling to overcome the intensity of the affair in the Italian capital.
The last time Lazio and Roma battled it out in the Coppa Italia came in the 2016-17 season, where the Biancocelesti secured a 2-0 win in the first league but fell 3-2 in the second. The result was enough to take them to the final, where they lost to Juventus.
The two rivals famously played the most important Derby della Capitale in history in the Coppa Italia final back in the 2012-13 campaign, which saw Lazio lift the trophy after Senad Lulic’s famous 73rd minute goal.

Lazio will be without Mattia Zaccagni and Gustav Isaksen, who both missed the Tuesday morning training session. Ivan Provedel was also absent due to a fever, but is expected to be present for the cup clash. Luis Alberto will also return following his recent injury, whilst Ciro Immobile is in doubt.
Roma cannot count on Chris Smalling, Houssem Aouar, Tammy Abraham, Renato Sanches and Diego Llorente.
