Lazio fans unveiled a banner supporting former coach Sven-Goran Eriksson after he recently announced his terminal cancer diagnosis.
The former Biancocelesti and England coach recently told Swedish media that he’d been diagnosed with cancer last year and was given another year to live. His announcement stunned and saddened the football world, explaining why he resigned from IF Karlstad last year.
Eriksson was the head coach of Lazio during their glory years of the late 1990s and early 2000s, guiding the team to numerous major honours including a Scudetto, a UEFA Super Cup, two Coppa Italia, two Supercoppa Italiana and the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.
TMW highlighted how a group of Lazio fans unveiled a banner supporting Eriksson in the stands of the Stadio Olimpico ahead of the kick off against Lecce, supporting the former coach. The banner read: “The battle has begun. Mr Sven, we’re with you!”
Eriksson oversaw 187 matches for Lazio during his three-and-a-half-year spell in the Italian capital, picking up 106 wins and 48 draws.
