Lazio have finally managed to find a new home for redundant midfielder Toma Basic, agreeing to send him on loan to Salernitana.

The 27-year-old Croatian midfielder was informed by Maurizio Sarri in the summer that he wouldn’t be part of the project moving forward, but he resisted a move away from the Italian capital in order to try and change the coach’s mind.

Basic essentially didn’t feature in the first half of the season for Lazio, making just one cameo appearance in the Coppa Italia win over Genoa. His last league start for the club came back in January of last year.

Gianluca Di Marzio details how Lazio and Salernitana have now signed all the relevant documents concerning Basic’s loan move to the Campania side, which’ll see him head south on a six-month loan with no buy option attached.

The 27-year-old is still contracted to the Roman club until June 2026 and will return in the summer.
