Sergej Milinkovic-Savic reportedly told his former Lazio teammates that he’d ‘like to return’ to the club only six months after leaving for Al-Hilal.
The 28-year-old Serbian midfielder left the Biancocelesti last summer for €40 million and penned a lucrative three-year deal with the Saudi side, swapping Europe for the riches of the Middle East. His move upset fans in Rome, who felt like he was wasting the prime of his career.
Milinkovic-Savic has looked fairly strong in the Saudi Pro League, scoring eight goals and providing four assists across 16 matches. In recent weeks, a number of players who joined Saudi clubs have started exploring ways out, including Jordan Henderson and Karim Benzema.
As reported by Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Milinkovic-Savic met the Lazio squad, Maurizio Sarri and Claudio Lotito at the Riyadh airport on Saturday to chat to his former teammates before their return to Italy.
There, he reportedly told his friends in the squad: “I miss you so much. I would like to return to Lazio.”
