Why Lazio Failed to Sign Fenerbahce Winger Ryan Kent

Lazio were just a step away from signing Fenerbahce winger Ryan Kent before everything collapsed at the final hurdle.

The Biancocelesti had agreed to sign the 27-year-old Englishman from the Istanbul giants on a €500,000 loan deal with a €5.5 million buy option attached, seemingly giving Maurizio Sarri a key reinforcement just before the closure of the January transfer window.

Suddenly, Kent decided against the move to Lazio and informed Fenerbahce of his decision to stay in Turkey, leaving the Roman club without any chance to find an alternative before the transfer market closed on Thursday evening.

Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) details how Kent rejected a number of clubs in the January transfer window, including Al-Ettifaq, Cardiff City, Hull City and ultimately Lazio, deciding to move forward with Fenerbahce.

The 27-year-old has struggled to show his best in Turkey since arriving on a free transfer last summer, scoring just one goal and providing two assists in 15 appearances across all competitions.
