Maurizio Sarri was furious with his Lazio squad on the training ground in Formello, harshly criticising the players’ work and attitudes.
The Biancocelesti looked dire in their miserable 3-1 defeat to Atalanta on the weekend, a result that harkened back to the inconsistency that plagued them in the first half of the season. It was a disappointing result considering the team’s recent uptick in form.
Lazio now sit ninth in the Serie A table, five points behind fourth place Atalanta. Sarri’s side need to immediately bounce back if they want to keep up with the race for a Champions League qualification spot.
As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Sarri was visibly furious with his Lazio squad when greeting them on the training ground in Formello, unhappy with their work in the defeat and telling them: “If you think I’m the problem, stick your balls out and go to Lotito.”
During the video session, the Italian coach would pause in-between each clip to harshly criticise their mistakes and explain what needs to be done properly. He also resisted any suggestion that the formation change from the current 4-3-3.
The mood wasn’t entirely miserable, however. The entire squad and staff met up for Elseid Hysaj’s birthday party in the evening, allowing them to enjoy themselves and reunite after a difficult spell.
