Why Lazio Failed to Sign Tottenham Winger Bryan Gil

Lazio were negotiating with Tottenham for Bryan Gil last month but couldn’t manage to close out a deal for the Spanish winger.

The 22-year-old Spaniard returned to North London from Sevilla last summer but failed to break into Ange Postecoglou’s squad, seeing less than 200 minutes of Premier League action in the first half of the season, making a January departure likely.

Lazio and Fiorentina were interested in signing Bryan Gil and both opened talks with Tottenham to agree a deal, but neither managed to take the 22-year-old away from North London last month. The Biancocelesti ultimately failed to bring in a new forward.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, the reason why Lazio failed to sign Bryan Gil is because the Tottenham winger’s entourage were pushing for the inclusion of a buy option or obligation to buy clause in his loan deal, something the Biancocelesti weren’t interested in.

The Roman club also tried to find a last minute deal for Fenerbahce’s Ryan Kent, who ultimately chose not to complete the move after terms between the two clubs were agreed.
