Lazio president Claudio Lotito made it clear that Maurizio Sarri was under no threat following the team’s recent drop in form.
The Biancocelesti had just started to find a rhythm just before Christmas, picking up five consecutive wins across all competitions, but everything began to unravel after their Supercoppa Italiana defeat to Inter last month.
Lazio drew Napoli and then fell in a painful 3-1 loss to Atalanta, a result that left Sarri infuriated. He was visibly furious when speaking to his players at Formello on Tuesday, offering them to go to Lotito with any complaints if they had ‘the balls’ to do so.
Speaking to Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Lotito was asked about the future of Sarri at Lazio following the team’s recent drop in form.
I don’t understand what the problem is. I’ll deal with it, I’ll take the situation into my own hands, as I’ve done other times in the past, but today I’m not talking to anyone. I certainly won’t sack Sarri and I won’t waste time denying nonsense.
Lazio currently sit 9th in the Serie A table after 22 games, sitting five points behind fourth place Atalanta. The team are still involved in both cups, facing Bayern Munich in the Champions League Round of 16 and Juventus in the Coppa Italia semi-finals.
