Gustav Isaksen revealed that he was just a step away from joining Feyenoord before he ultimately joined Lazio last summer.
The 22-year-old Danish winger joined the Biancocelesti from FC Midtjylland in a definitive transfer worth around €12 million, penning a five-year contract with the Roman club. After a slow start under Maurizio Sarri, he has finally started to impress in the Italian capital.
Isaksen has scored two goals and provided two assists in his last seven Serie A matches and also won the penalty in Lazio’s unexpected Champions League win over Bayern Munich, starting to prove himself an exciting and electric option on the right wing.
Speaking to TV3 Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Isaksen discussed his transfer to Lazio and revealed that he was close to joining Feyenoord.
I was very close to Feyenoord, but the clubs couldn’t reach an agreement. A few days later Lazio arrived, and it was a great step for my career.
I was a bit afraid because I knew I would be playing in a difficult league, but then I thought it was a huge club with excellent players.
With Felipe Anderson expected to leave Lazio on a free transfer in the summer, the growth of Isaksen could pay dividends for Maurizio Sarri and the club for next season and beyond.
