Lazio Secure Important Victory Away to In-Form Torino

Lazio bounced back from their disappointing loss to Bologna with an important win away to Ivan Juric’s Torino.

The Biancocelesti had generated some momentum with wins over Cagliari and Bayern Munich, but everything looked at risk of collapse after another frustrating defeat at home, losing to Thiago Motta’s Bologna 2-1.

Ignoring the noise, Lazio returned to work under Maurizio Sarri at Formello and ultimately tasted success against Torino due to their efficient gameplan, picking up all three points after a 2-0 win.

Torino started the match in the Piedmont capital on the front foot and almost took the lead in the fourth minute, when Antonio Sanabria’s shot ricocheted off the post.

The home side continued to press throughout the first half and had a number of decent chances through Sanabria, Nikola Vlasic and Ivan Ilic, but they were unable to break the deadlock.

Lazio looked more positive in the early stages of the second half and edged out a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute after a perfect pass from Luis Alberto left Matteo Guendouzi in space in the Torino box, allowing him to poke him the first goal of the game.

Only six minutes later, the Biancocelesti doubled their advantage after a tidy shot from outside the box by Danilo Cataldi, which bounced off the post and went behind Vanja Milinkovic-Savic to put Lazio 2-0 up.

Torino wrestled back control of the match and began to fight for a goal of their own, but their forward ventures continued to prove fruitless.

In the 79th minute of the match, Mario Gila was shown a second yellow card and sent off after a clumsy foul on Duvan Zapata, ending his night early.

Despite the man disadvantage, Lazio held on and secured an important 2-0 win away to Torino, restoring some confidence and putting key points on the board.
