Claudio Lotito claimed imminent coach Igor Tudor ‘rejected Napoli and Roma’ prior to accepting the Lazio job.
The Croatian coach was one of the Biancocelesti’s top choices to replace Maurizio Sarri following the Italian tactician’s unexpected resignation last week, and it only took a day or two of negotiations before he agreed to take on the role.
Tudor is expected to arrive at Lazio in the coming hours, ready to start his work ahead of the club’s next game against Juventus on March 30, taking advantage of the international break to get to know the squad and environment.
Speaking to Il Messaggero (via TMW), Lotito first discussed the resignation of Sarri and if he’d been in talks with Tudor for a long time, considering the quick nature of negotiations.
Sarri suddenly resigned, and we tried to convince him to stay. The truth is that it bothers some that we managed to resolve the problem in 24 hours on the first and only appointment.
I picked up the phone, met the agents and received the appreciation of Tudor, who had rejected Napoli and Roma.
He was then asked if he’d be selling the club after rumours suggested a possible takeover.
I have not given any mandate to a group of advisors to search for buyers who can help or take over the club. Everything is false, pure inventions. I’m not selling.
Tudor is expected to sign a one-year contract with Lazio, lasting until June 2025 with an option for a second year.
Lotito is not selling the club, poor Lazio.
Who can bring Lazio back to the glorious period?
Any Millionaire to take over from the stingy Lotito?
