Isaksen Talks Sarri Exit, Tudor Arrival & Lazio Changes

Gustav Isaksen opened up about Maurizio Sarri’s shock resignation, the arrival of Igor Tudor and the changing landscape at Lazio.

The 22-year-old Danish winger’s time with the Biancocelesti started slowly but he began to prove himself as the season went on, scoring two goals and providing four assists in 35 appearances across all competitions, starting to show himself a worthy successor to Felipe Anderson.

Around him, there’s been changes at Lazio; Sarri unexpectedly resigned on Tuesday last week, prompting the club to quickly appoint Tudor as his replacement. The Croatian coach arrived on Monday and carried out his first training session in Formello yesterday.

Speaking from the Denmark training camp (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Isaksen first reflected on Sarri’s time in charge of Lazio and his unexpected resignation.

My relationship with Sarri was good, even if it wasn’t easy at the beginning, I didn’t talk much with him, he wasn’t really the type to talk much with the players. It was more through our captain Sarri only talked about football and that was it.

He wanted me to speak in Italian and barely in English, luckily one of his collaborators spoke with me in the language I understood best. Sarri knew a little English, but he wasn’t happy to speak it.

There were a lot of tactics and I just had to get used to it. I’ve only recently started to understand it, so it’s a bit annoying.

The Danish winger then gave his thoughts on the arrival of former Marseille and Verona coach Tudor and how things have changed at Lazio since.

I think my type of football suits me better than him. Obviously, it took a few months before we understood what Sarri wanted. I think it will be easier with him here (Tudor, ed.). My teammate Guendouzi had him in Marseille, so he told us a little about him.

He said that you play a lot man on man, and he plays a bit with the same formation that they have here in the national team with a 3-4-2-1, so it will be a little different, but also exciting. Mister Sarri talked a lot about tactics, with Tudor I think we will give more intensity to our game.
