Lotito Explains Why Lazio Hired Tudor: ‘I Chose Him Because…’

Lazio president Claudio Lotito opened up about why he decided to hire Igor Tudor following the shock resignation of Maurizio Sarri.

The Biancocelesti got off to a strong start under their new Croatian coach, edging out a tense 1-0 win over a wounded Juventus in their Serie A clash on Saturday. Now, Tudor and his squad will have to repeat this success in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final clash with the Old Lady.

Sarri did do well during his three-year spell in the dugout in Rome, but the wheels began to come off his Lazio project this term and it quickly became clear that a change was needed to kickstart a new era at the club.

Speaking to Il Messaggero (via Calciomercato.com), Lotito explained why he decided to focus his efforts on hiring Tudor last month following Sarri’s unexpected resignation.

I chose him for his iron character and his desire to make the most of this team, which he believes to be strong and competitive.

Tudor has agreed to a one-year contract with Lazio, lasting to June 2025 with an option for a second year linked to easily achievable sporting results.
