Tensions have started to spark between Lazio and Roma fans in the hours leading up to the Derby della Capitale.

The Biancocelesti haven’t lost a derby to their intercity rivals in over two years and will be desperate to maintain their run in their clash this evening, hoping new coach Igor Tudor can find the right rhythm to secure a key victory.

Roma have been flying high since the appointment of Daniele De Rossi back in January and they’re in the thick of the fight for a top four finish with Bologna, making the derby with the Biancocelesti a must-win game for the Giallorossi.

Ansa and La Lazio Siamo Noi detailed how around 200 Lazio fans were moving towards the bar River near the Stadio Olimpico, when they came across circa 100 Roma fans. Scuffles quickly began as the two groups began fighting.

Police quickly intervened, using smoke bombs and tear gas to disperse the crowd. An investigation is now underway in an attempt to identify those involved, and one Giallorossi fan has already been arrested. Helmets, sledgehammers and screwdrivers were seized from the two groups.
