Tudor: ‘Lazio Lacked Focus Up Front Against Roma’

Lazio coach Igor Tudor underlined the draining nature of the recent schedule following the 1-0 defeat to Roma in the Derby della Capitale.

The Biancocelesti were unable to find a way through the Giallorossi defence for large parts of the derby on Saturday evening, suffering a painful 1-0 loss after a Gianluca Mancini header in the closing minutes of the first half.

The defeat leaves Tudor’s Lazio eighth in the Serie A table with seven matches left to play, making a European finish fairly unlikely at this stage. Regardless, the remaining games will be key for planning ahead for the transfer market and next season.

Speaking to DAZN (via TMW), Tudor first explained why Lazio suffered defeat to Roma in the derby.

We lacked a bit of focus up front, this Roma were probably too much for us given that it was the third match in seven days, however good. We congratulate them and get to work.

He spoke about his half time substitutions.

Ciro and Romagnoli had some problems while Isaksen was a technical choice.

The Croatian coach commented on what’s been missing at the club so far.

Getting to know the team and the individuals better. You can’t get to know them well after a couple of training sessions, but this football must also be interpreted better on a physical level. To handle intense football, you have to do a month of work.

I’m optimistic, because our football is totally different compared to the previous three years, it will take some time but we’re looking forward with positivity.

Tudor discussed the lack of decisive moves in front of goal.

It’s clear that we’re struggling up front, it remains to be seen because the three up front have to make the real difference, but today it was difficult because it’s difficult to press against Roma, given that they are good at avoiding it.

If you don’t go fast, it’s difficult to steal it from them, it wasn’t easy to be compact, we had to split the line a bit, but we especially suffered from their physicality on the second balls, they had more leg than us.

Finally, Tudor spoke about his next goals with Lazio.

The objectives are always the same, to grow and improve up front while maintaining balance and compactness. I can’t wait to get back to work to prepare for the next game.
