Elseid Hysaj could reportedly be on his way out of Lazio this summer with the club expected to ring the changes across several possible departments. The Albanian has been plying his trade at the Italian capital since 2021.
The fullback first arrived in Italy back in 2009 at the age of 15, joining Empoli’s youth academy. He then climbed his way up the ranks at the Tuscan club before getting his big breakthrough in Serie A under the guidance of Maurizio Sarri.
In 2015, he followed the manager to Napoli and remained at the Maradona Stadium until 2021, when Sarri resorted to his services once more after being appointed as Lazio coach. But with the former Chelsea and Juventus coach resigning from his post last month, Hysaj could follow him to the exit door.
According to Nicolo Schira, the versatile wingback may well leave the Biancocelesti this summer. The Italian journalist posted the news on his X account, without revealing any possible destinations. The player’s contract with the capital club will expire in the summer of 2025.
Hysaj is originally a right-back but has mostly featured on the left flank this season. But with Igor Tudor switching to a three-man defense, some observers deem him ill-suited for the tactical system, so they expect him to struggle to earn sufficient playing time.
The Albania international has thus far made 23 appearances for Lazio across all competitions but has yet to make a direct goal contribution.
