Deteriorating Relationship With Lotito Could Push Lazio Defender Towards Exit Door

The future of Alessio Romagnoli at Lazio is becoming increasingly uncertain due to several factors, including his shaky rapport with club president Claudio Lotito. The amicable bond that the two men shared in the past has reportedly deteriorated over time.

According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, the 29-year-old is one of several Biancocelesti “senators” who could be heading towards the exit door in the summer. The list includes club captain Ciro Immobile, Luis Alberto, Danilo Cataldi, Adam Marusic, Mattia Zaccagni, and obviously Felipe Anderson who’s running on an expiring contract and is heavily linked with a free transfer to Juventus.

As for Romagnoli, his relationship with Lotito has now decayed, as the source explains. When the defender first joined the club in 2022, he was reportedly promised to receive a pay rise over time. But that didn’t ensue despite his impressive performances last season which helped Lazio secure a place in the Champions League.

On the other hand, the club president feels “betrayed” by the behavior of some of his key stars this season, including Romagnoli. Moreover, the appointment of Igor Tudor didn’t help the case of the former Milan captain who isn’t accustomed to playing in a three-man defense.

So while the Italian hasn’t yet announced his intention to leave his beloved club in the summer, he would like to understand what the management and the new coach have in store for him before deciding on his future. The defender’s contract with Lazio runs until the summer of 2027.
