At the end of Lazio’s 4-1 victory in Matchday 32 over Salernitana, Luis Alberto spoke to DAZN. In addition to commenting on the season and the team’s performance, the Spaniard also spoke about his future.
This season has not been an easy one for Lazio and Laziali worldwide. After finishing second place under Maurizio Sarri last season, they have struggled to replicate their performances and results, resulting in the Italian Manager walking away following defeat to Udinese.
It has been a bit of a complicated year. We had to win, today we needed the three points and we had to give a positive signal.
The Spaniard also discussed the potential of securing a top-five finish to make next year’s edition of the UEFA Champions League. Lazio currently sit seventh in the Serie A table, six points behind Roma in fifth place, and 9 points behind Bologna in fourth place.
In football nothing is done, it’s complicated but we have to have a clear head for the remaining games.
Finally, the midfielder made a shocking announcement about his future, surprising everyone. Despite recently signing a contract extension in October 2023, it seems like he has made up his mind about his future.
For me it has been a difficult few weeks, with everything that has happened. Project? I don’t know, but I know that this is my last season here, I won’t be part of it any longer.
I don’t want to take one more Euro from Lazio, I’ve already asked for my contract to be terminated. I’ll leave the next four years to others – rightly so, stepping aside from this club has given me a lot. The time has come to step aside and leave my salary to others.”
As it stands, Luis Alberto has a contract until 2027. He has been linked with a move to Spain in recent years, in addition to Saudi Arabia this past Summer; however, despite all the drama that the club and player have been through together, they have always found a way to continue together; this time may be different.
