Confident Lazio Overpower Salernitana in Thrilling 4-1 Win

Lazio finally started to show signs of magic under new coach Igor Tudor, flying to a 4-1 win over strugglers Salernitana.

The Biancocelesti are clearly in a state of construction following last month’s arrival of Igor Tudor, who took over after the unexpected resignation of Maurizio Sarri. His first three matches in charge saw a league win over Juventus, a cup loss to the Old Lady and a derby defeat to Roma.

Salernitana have already seemingly booked their spot in Serie B next season, having failed to generate a rhythm on the Campania coast this season. The Granata won just two of their first 31 games ahead of the clash with Lazio, making their trip to the Stadio Olimpico a daunting one.

FIRST HALF | LAZIO VS SALERNITANA 3-1

Lazio got off to a thunderous start in front of their home fans, quickly taking a 1-0 lead through Felipe Anderson. Charging down the wing in the seventh minute, the Brazilian cut inside and comfortably placed the ball past Benoit Costil to put his side ahead.

In the 14th minute, Luis Alberto whipped in a corner right into the danger zone, which seemingly bounced off Giulio Maggiore’s arm, leading to calls for handball. Before there was time to think, Matias Vecino pounced on the loose ball and poked it home to make it 2-0 to Lazio.

This proved to be the wake-up call for Salernitana, firing them up straight from kick-off. A nice attacking move started by Domagoj Bradaric’s charge down the left ended with a towering header from Loum Tchaouna that sailed past Christos Mandas and flew into the back of the net, making it 2-1.

Lazio didn’t slow down as the first half against Salernitana progressed, growing in confidence in Tudor’s new system, and they restored their two-goal cushion in the 35th minute thanks to Felipe Anderson, who did well to run onto a Luis Alberto pass and guide the ball past a splaying Costil to put the home side 3-1 up.

SECOND HALF | LAZIO VS SALERNITANA 4-1

The Biancocelesti’s dominance continued throughout the first half and Gustav Isaksen eventually closed out a fun evening for the home fans, doing well to place the ball in the far corner in the 87th minute after the ball was stolen by Nicolo Rovella, closing out a 4-1 win.

It was an important and much-needed victory for Tudor and Lazio, who now have a strong result to rally behind ahead of their final six matches of the Serie A season, as well as their Coppa Italia semi-final second leg against Juventus.
