Lotito Trying to Convince Lazio Veteran of Contract Termination

Lazio President Claudio Lotito is reportedly working on ending the club’s collaboration with Pedro Rodriguez despite his automatic contract renewal which has recently taken effect.

The former Barcelona and Chelsea winger made the unusual crosstown switch from Roma to Lazio in 2021 and quickly became an important player in Maurizio Sarri’s tactical plans; however, with the Italian manager no longer at the helm, this season may be his last in Rome.

The veteran’s playing time has been on the decline lately, as well as his scoring charts; this season, he has netted just three goals from 39 appearances across all competitions, with the vast majority of his outings coming off the bench.

According to Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24), the future of the 36-year-old in the Italian capital remains a puzzle. The Spaniard has reportedly activated an automatic renewal clause for another season after making his 25th appearance of the season, but while the player would be happy to linger for another year, Lotito has other plans in mind.

As the source explains, the Lazio patron is looking to convince Pedro to part ways at the end of the season, which would help the club lower the wage bill and overall age, in addition to paving the way for a squad revamp.

Therefore, Lotito has reportedly scheduled a meeting with the player, hoping to reach an agreement to rescind his contract by the end of the current campaign.
