Tudor Looking to Reunite With Lazio Loanee Next Season

Lazio coach Igor Tudor will reportedly welcome back Matteo Cancellieri with open arms next summer.

The two men worked together during their time at Hellas Verona. This was when the Italian rose to the scene as one of the most promising young wingers in Serie A. His exploits in the 2021/22 campaign earned him a switch to the Biancocelesti. He initially signed on loan, before making his move permanent last summer.

Due to the lack of playing under Maurizio Sarri last season, the capital side decided to send the youngster on loan to Empoli this term. He has thus far contributed with three goals and two assists in 32 appearances. The Tuscans have the option to keep him permanently, while Lazio have inserted a buy-back clause in their favour.

According to Italian football journalist Nicolo Schira, Cancellieri will return to Lazio in the summer, as he remains a highly-rated player in Tudor’s book. Therefore, the 22-year-old will have the opportunity to earn a spot in next season’s squad, especially if he manages to impress in pre-season.

Cancellieri is a left-footed player who mainly plays on the right flank as an inverted winger. He started his career at Roma before moving to Verona. He currently represents Italy at the U21 level, but has already made a single appearance for the senior Azzurri team dating back to June 2022.
