Lazio released a statement on the club’s official website explaining how they plan to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their maiden Scudetto triumph.
The Biancocelesti have won two league titles since their founding in 1900. While the most recent was in 2000, the first one ensued back in May 1974. Therefore, the club is preparing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their victory over Foggia which yielded the title, honouring the legends who achieved this historic feat – the likes of Umberto Lenzini, Tommaso Maestrelli, Giuseppe Wilson and Giorgio Chinaglia.
Lazio will be hosting Empoli at the Stadio Olimpico in Sunday’s early Serie A kickoff. Hence, the club will launch the celebrations in the morning, with an event at the stadium’s press room at 10:45 am local time. Afterwards, all eyes will be on the pitch, as the 1974 heroes make their return to the stadium to greet the tens of thousands in attendance.
Some of them will appear in person, while those who have departed will be represented by members of their families. They will then salute the fans with a tour all over the Stadio Olimpico.
The current Lazio players will also be present on the pitch to pay homage to their predecessors. More importantly, Igor Tudor’s men will be expected to honour the occasion by registering a win over their Tuscan visitors.
