Ciro Immobile opened up about his love for Lazio and how it feels to wear the Biancocelesti shirt, looking back at their first Scudetto success.
The 34-year-old Italian striker has had a difficult season in the Italian capital this term, being limited to seven goals across 30 Serie A appearances, a campaign that has seen faith in the captain start to wane as the year has gone on.
Immobile has over two years left on his contract with Lazio but a number of rumours have linked him with a departure this summer, with possible destinations including Inter, Napoli and some unnamed clubs in Saudi Arabia.
Speaking at the ‘Diary of a Dream’ event at the Auditorium Parco della Musica (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Immobile opened up about his love for Lazio and what he’s learnt from the Scudetto winning side of the 1973-74 campaign. Special shirts commemorating this win were worn against Empoli.
For me I believe it’s the maximum in the hearts of the fans, every player should have that as their goal, then there are the collective and personal rewards. My teammates and I did everything we could to give you 100% of what you deserved, with today’s victory.
We ended the party in the best possible way. The Lazio fans love me, and I love the Lazio fans. I really understood how much the people loved Chinaglia when I got close to his number of goals.
I felt the older fans were torn because I was overtaking Giorgio, and they were both happy and sad because it was Chinaglia. When I talk about Lazio and what we have done I get emotional.
