Lazio midfielder Daichi Kamada is leaning increasingly closer towards signing a new contract with the Italian capital side.

The 27-year-old joined the Biancocelesti last summer on a free transfer after seeing out his contract with Eintracht Frankfurt. However, the two parties’ agreement included unusual terms. Kamada only signed an initial one-year deal, but he has the option to unilaterally trigger a three-year extension before May 30th.

According to La Repubblica (via Calciomercato), the Japanese midfielder is likely to remain at the club beyond the summer, especially after finding consistency since the arrival of Igor Tudor in March. Kamada has become a key player under the guidance of the Croatian manager, as illustrated by the goal he scored yesterday in the 1-1 draw against Inter.

The Japan international has several suitors across Europe, including Crystal Palace where he can reunite with his former Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner. Nevertheless, the midfielder appears increasingly likely to linger at Formello.

However, the source adds that Kamada won’t activate his automatic renewal clause, but will instead let it expire before negotiating new terms with Lazio president Claudio Lotito. The player currently earns €3 million as net wages per season, but he’s seeking a contract worth €3.5M per year, in addition to bonuses that raise the sum to €4M.

This season, the versatile midfielder has contributed with two goals and as many assists in 28 Serie A appearances.
